Website History
June 17, 2025
In 2013 the club registered the domain name nogardenclub.com and created a website on iPage. That site ran until a change in pricing.
The club certified as a nonprofit with Google Workspace and we moved to Google Sites in Jan 2016. After the pandemic the club opened an online shop to preorder.
How old is the Garden Club?
June 1, 2025
The club began nearly immediately after the first homes in North Oaks were occupied in 1959. It was an informal group of gardeners who shared plants, laughs, and knowledge. It slowly evolved from an intrepid group of young gardeners into the nonprofit we have today. The club formalized it's nonprofit status in 2006.
Pre COVID the club's annual fundraiser had three parts. There was the presale order form that the public and members would preorder plants. Then we had a day of sale on the Saturday before every Mother's day to sell plants. Part of the star attractions was a perennial wagon of plants dug from within North Oaks. Myriad ferns, peonies, bluebells, and ephemeral wildflowers would be available.
Of course we had some minor plant scandals. An overzealous member dug wildflowers out of someone's property without permissions. After the homeowner found out, the club was barred from touching the property. After a few decades, we were forgiven and allowed back to dig under careful direction.
